When I was a little girl, I hated wearing dresses. You can ask my mom how many Sunday mornings I screamed and cried as she slipped a floral dress over my head and slapped on a pair of white tights and lace socks. As a teenager, I went through phases of v necks, band tee’s, and oversized hoodies. Now, as an adult, I still refrain from wearing dresses. I’m most comfortable in a loose t and black jeans.
Looking back, I realize that I’ve spent a lot of time trying to figure out what it meant to dress “like a lady”. When I dig a little further, I realize that I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to be “lady like”, like any young girl does. It’s a normal process of figuring out what you like and dislike. But, it’s not so simple for little girls. Society has a tendency to tell young ladies what’s appropriate to wear and what’s appropriate to say. As an adult, it can be difficult to unlearn those things, and it’s incredible to have people cheer you on along the way.
Enter – the Metal Marvels community. I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of an online community full of brave, bad ass women, who take no shit and love their sisters. These women have inspired me in more ways than they know. I’ve seen first hand their empathy, encouragement, and bravery lift people out of dark places.
I have seen this brand give a voice to so many who previously felt like they didn’t have one. Women (and men) who are shedding the lies they were raised to believe and fully embracing themselves, their beliefs, and not apologizing for it. Who use vulgarity to show strength and self expression, rather than allow it to define them in any other way. Who are learning to speak up for themselves and speak out on behalf of others. I believe this brand represents an entire generation of people who will never give up the fight for justice on both a personal and global scale.
I am so proud to be even just a small part of this brand and community. It has encouraged me in so many ways. It has empowered me in so many as well. It really is “Modern Day Armor”.
If you’ve ever purchased from Metal Marvels, thank you. If you’ve ever spoken up or out on behalf of a sister, thank you. If you’ve ever stood up for yourself, I’m proud of you.
